I find a haunting gaze in people’s eyes.  A mixture of innocence
robbed, oppression and youthful curiosity.  I started to meditate
on what life must look like through their eyes, their perspective,
their culture, their beliefs, fears and hardships.  Could it be at all
as I imagine?  Could I see what they see, rationalize the way they
would rationalize or perceive life as they would?

My art is an exploration into the human nature of preconceived
ideas and stereotypes that stand between us.  Race, religion, sex
and culture separate and divide us all.

We are all humans.  We all eat, drink, love, hate, cry and laugh.
Yet, at times, we look at one another through a filter of
judgment, fear, misunderstanding, and lack of tolerance.  We fail
to see one another from a perspective other than our own.  We
fail to see each other through the eyes of another, through the
other's fears and beliefs.

We often want to change one another because we think our
perspective and our beliefs are the only truth.  Because of our
own successes and failures, we assume that others will have
similar results if they become like us and see things as we do.

Sometimes we change ourselves, trying to fit in someone else’s
perception of who we should or should not be.  Can we “own”
our true “self”?  Can we see that at the core of the human
experience, we may all be more alike than we perceive?
